The power of handwritten messages
I’ve kept a card box for as long as I can remember. The handwritten messages from over the years sit on a shelf in my hall closet and are beginning to burst out of the top. My box has one rule. If some one takes the time to write me a handwritten message of more than a paragraph, it goes into the box. I can’t think of a more special thing to keep in today’s digital age.
In my history of keeping these notes, there was only one time that I went back to read them. It was after I lost my sister, Ellen. In my grief, I was frantic and searching for a note from her. While I couldn’t hear her voice, I wanted to read and touch her writing; a message just for me for all of eternity. I got more and more desperate as I read through the hundreds of messages and came up empty. I didn’t save a note from one of the most important people in my life.
